Odor

Introduction

Simply stated odor is a sensory perception of oderant molecules disolved in the air that is breathed. Odors are normally the result of volitised organic (eg. fatty acids, amines) or inorganic (e.g. hydrogen sulphide or ammonia) compounds in a gaseous state. Even at very low concentrations, such compounds which are released or escape into the local environment can cause odor issues.

Many substances in the environment can produce odors. You typically smell these odors when you are outdoors and sometimes when you are indoors with your windows open. You may smell and react to certain chemicals in the air before they are at harmful levels. Those odors can become a nuisance and bother people, causing temporary symptoms such as headache and nausea. Other odors can be toxic and cause harmful health effects.

Environmental odors can come from many sources:
  • Animals:Confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs)
  • Human activities:Compost, sewage, garbage, fires, household cleaning agents
  • Industry:Oil refineries, landfills, paper mills, wastewater treatment plants
  • Nature:Moist soil, gardens, fires
  • Vehicles:Diesel exhaust

About the odor

Sept-X

Sept-X: contains a novel consortium of natural, non-genetically modified metabolically cooperative microorganisms with ability to produce endogenous and exogenous enzymes and small molecule metabolic cofactors which support both biocatalytic and metabolic activity

Sept-X: has capability to breakdown gaseous and solid organic and inorganic substrates. It starts working in minutes, reacting bio-chemically with odor-causing molecules, breaking down volatile organic compounds upon contact into their final inert (and odor free) compounds.

Sept-X Odor changes the pathway of decomposition

Through the ability of the Sept-X microbes to rapidly multiply they naturally expand in number to meet the volume of waste that needs to be decomposed. The microbes then excrete specialized combinations of enzymes that rapidly begin to decompose the waste matter that is causing the organic odor. Unlike natural bacteria the pathways of metabolism between the enzyme and its corresponding bacteria rapidly accelerates the decomposition process to the

point where the normally odor causing intermediate metabolites simply to not exist. The substrate is digested fully to its final non-odorous products such as water, oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen gas.

Sept-X Creates Micro-Environment That Optimizes Natural Decomposition

By preventing an excessive concentration of the acid compounds caused in the acid phase of natural fermentation or decomposition Sept-X is able create environmental conditions where the natural bacteria can continue to perform its task including the final methane phase conversion of acids and alcohols into non-odorous methane, carbon dioxide, water and energy.

Sept-X is also extremely effective at rapidly digesting ammonia which also acts to inhibit many types of natural bacteria including the natural methane forming bacteria.

Sept-X Operates In Acidic Environments

Unlike natural bacteria which generally lose effectiveness at pH levels below 4.5, Sept-X will operate in acidic conditions to pH1.5. This makes Sept-X an ideal solution where the natural process of decomposition has ‘stalled’ and acidosis has occurred. This is half the explanation for how Sept-X can so rapidly remove existing persistent odor issues.

Sept-X Digests Odorous Molecules Dissolved In  The Air

Being effective at digesting the individual dissolved molecules of odorous compounds in gaseous states is the other half of the explanation for Sept-X being so effective at rapidly removing most common odors.

Sept-X Operates Anaerobically

Unlike natural bacteria which require oxygen to metobolise waste, Sept-X is a facultative anaerobe meaning that it can operate very effectively in the absence of oxygen. This means that unlike natural bacteria where the outer surface of a compound may not smell but if there surface is disrupted malodor escapes, a substrate treated with Sept-X will be treated throughout as the microbes rapidly disperse through the substrate.

Benefits Of Using Sept-X:
  • Fast acting
  • Effective on a wide range of volatile organic compounds (VOC)
  • Removes rather than masking odors
  • Cost effective
  • Operative at low dosage rates
  • Long residual effective period
  • 100% natural and non-toxic
  • Safe for humans and the environment
